Abstract

This paper deals with some properties of the wood of Castanopsis concina, such as specific gravity, width of growth rings, shrinkage and swelling, comptessive sttength parallel and perpendicular to the grain, tensile strength perpendicular to the gtain, bending strength, shear strength parallel to the grain, toughness and hardness. The 9 boles expetimented on were collected from Fujian province, of which 1067 samples were made. The mean values worked out in the paper cover three different heights and the total sum. Regression analyses were made for the relationship between strength and specific gravity of various kinds with 52 regression equations given.
