Field studies were conducted for three years (1997～1999)with two year tall fescue ( Festuca arundinacea ).Individual plots measured 2 by 2 m, were arranged in a randomized design with three replications.Turfgrass retardant (Tr) was used in the spring, the summer and the autumn respectively. The result showed that all Tr applications could reduce stem and leaf growth, enhance Tillering number (Tn),increased root mass, shorten leaf length, enhance leaf thickness and greenness compared to the check. Applying Tr on tall fescue could improve turf quality through increasing turf density and enhancing turfgrass drought resistance.
