Abstract:
Electrical wave transmission is a universal phenomena in plants,the electrical wave transmission may be the first response to the stimulation from outside of plant.In general,two kinds of electrical responses to stimulation have been distinguished:the action potential (AP) transmission in response to non injurious local stimulation and the variation potential (VP) transmission in response to injurious stimulation.The AP can only transmit in live tissue,however it is not necessary for VP. Two theories were put forward to explain the evocation mechanisms of the action potentials in the plants,one is the "two stable state theory" the other is "two channel theory".It is generally accepted that AP transmission is achieved by successive relays of the constituent cells interconnected by plasmodesmata within the conducting tissue.Although little is known of the mode of VP transmission,there exists much evidence showing a certain chemical substance,the Riccas factor,released from the site of injury.The Riccas factor can be carried away from the site of injury along the vessel in an intact plant by the transpiration stream and elicit VP as it moves on and comes in contact with the adjoining parenchyma.The study about the electrical signals in the plants in still on the primary phase,but much evidence has been accumulated to support that the electrical wave transmission in plants is associated with their physiological change.
