Spatio-temporal variation and driving forces of natural landscape patterns in the coast zone of Yancheng

Variation of landscape pattern can provide key information about human activity effects on landscape. The paper mainly deals with the spatio-temporal variation and driving force of the landscape pattern in the coast zone of Yancheng city with the technique of remote sensing and GIS employed. The results indicate:① the area of natural landscape decreased remarkable, which included reed fields, Suaeda salsa fields, and mudflats. The area of Spartina alterniflora fields and artificial landscape increased significantly. Spartina alterniflora is an alien invasion species. The majority of artificial landscape is aquaculture ponds and farmland. ② The landscape matrix had changed from the situation that the natural landscape was equal with the artificial landscape to that just the latter was dominant. ③ The number of patch and patch density decreased, but average area of patches increased because lots of small natural landscape lost. Coastal landscape diversity degraded. ④ The main reason of coastal landscape pattern change was land use by human, which changed from the traditional aquatic products collection, extensive reed planting into high-yield aquaculture, agricultural production and the resident, as well as the spread of alien invasive species.
