Abstract: This paper deals with the thin layer chromatography in the qualitative analysis of wood carbohydrate and its optimum conditions. Several methods of quantification have been compared, the results of which show that the thin layer chromatography is a simple, quick method for determining the carbohydrate quality; by using the CS-910 thin layer chromatography scanner, quantification can be done fast and accurately, with an error below 2 %; if the elusory colorimetric method is used with the 721 spectrophotometer for quantification, the error will be 5-15%; and the visual estimation is a simple and easy method to be applied, but to the semi-quantification only.
