Sphaeropsis sapinea is a destructive pathogen of coniferous species in many areas of the world. Since its initial description,S.sapinea has acquired at least 22 other synonyms. Now,S.sapinea has been accepted by many countries.Researches in South Africa and America have shown,there are significant cultural and virulent differences between isolates of S.sapines.America has divided american isolates of S.sapinea into type A snd type B.However,researchers of South Africa think South African isolates couldn’t be divided into two groups based on these differences.Preliminary studies on the aspect have been made by New Zealand,France and China. 
