Abstract: The insect appears to be widely distributed in the Provinces of Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejian, Guangxi etc. where ginkgo trees grow, doing damage to twigs and young branches, thus seriously impairing the growth of the tree and the yield of seeds. It is now known that each insect takes a whole year to pass through one life-cycle and that the pest mature at the end of March or in the first fortnight of April and lay their eggs between the second half of April to early May. The pests do serious damages to ginkgo trees from mid-April to late June at the larva stage after they are hatched from eggs. In mid-November, they begin to turn into pupae to survive the winter.Elderly trees or those growing with less vigor are liable to such insect attacks. The insect has a preference for light rather than darkness, a dry corner than m ist ones. The incidence of infestation decreases with higher latitudes. Vertical distributions have been discerned and the pest has not been found as yet in areas over 800 metres above sea level. As regards the method of preventing the insect attack, use 80% DDVP emulsion diluted with 800 times as much water to spray the leave portions and use DDVP oil spray to kill larvae in tree branches and twigs. Whitewash tree trunks to stop the eclosion of adult insects.
