Abstract
The oriented strand board (OSB) made for the container flooring’s core is divided into thin anisotropic layers with the same thickness and homogeneity. Then the OSB can be treated as a laminate panel configured with those thin OSB layers. With an X-ray system to measure the vertical density profile of the OSB, Modulus of Elasticity ( MOE of each thin layer was affected by density. A laser detector was used to measure the strand angle in the mat, and the Visual Basic for Application (VBA) was applied to model the strand angle distribution. Thus the MOE of every thin layer and the MOE of the entire OSB can be simulated, The results indicated that the modeled MOE was only 3.7% higher than the true one. The layer’s contribution to the whole OSB can be predicted using the model, as well. The faces (50% of weight) made an approximate 90% contribution in the parallel MOE and 74% in perpendicular MOE.
