Abstract: Using a strain gauge, cutting resistance of the timber of Pinus massoniana has been measured under different conditions and effects of different feeding speeds, moisture contents of the wood, feeding directions and the conditions of sawteeth on the resistance studied. Electric power consumption has also been measured by electrotech-nique in operation to check the resistance tested. Also analyzed here are the various main power consumptions on the MJ 3210 band saw and on this basis, new formulas for calculating the total electric power consumption resulting from band saw cutting resistance on the timber are worked out.
