China is one of the countries with serious desertificati on problems. It has desertified land of 276.6 km 2,which occupied 27.4% of its entire territory.North-west is the main region with desertified land.Deser t toxic plant species are widely distributed in North-west region.A new way of controlling desertification,cultivating and comprehensive utilization of desert toxic shrub and herb plant resources, was proposed on the basis of intensive wor k in both basic and practical research.Cultivating desert toxic shrub and herb a nd utilizing resources of desert toxic shrub and herb on a large scale can not o nly control desertification effectively,but also form good interactions between developing economy and restoring ecological environment in North-west region.Th erefore,it is very important to know the species resources of desert toxic shrub and herb plant, which constitute about 10 percent of 1 000 total wild plant sp ecies in North-west region.95 species in seventeen families of main desert toxi c shrub and herb plant are listed in the paper for readers’ references.
