The process of somatic embryogenesis (SE) of Catalpa bungei and the effects of different growth regulators on SE were studied with explants of cotyledons and hypocotyls of seedlings. The seedlings were cultured from near matured seeds of C.bungei. The results showed that callus could be induced on each medium in this paper. Callus could be transferred to embryogenic callus on the medium of 1/2MS+0.01 mg/L NAA+1.00 mg/L 6-BA, on which the SE were induced with the highest frequency. The SE were able to proliferate on the medium of 1/2MS0 and 1/2MS+1.00 mg/L 6-BA+0.01 mg/L NAA with high multiplication coefficient.
