Abstract

In this paper it is reported firstly that the tree stem form traits, including tree round degree, crooked degree, crooked degree, coefficient utilization, number of knot and thickness of bark, were investigated to 9 year’s new clones of east cottonwod and genetic variation analysis was carried out. The results show that poplar clonal stem form variation is obviously different among the clones. The broad heritability of the poplar clonal stem form traits were high (h 2=0.438 0~0 775 3) so that these traits are highly controlled by genetic material. The coefficient of genetic variability of the trait crooked degree, number of tree knot and thickness of tree bark were higher than both traits of round degree and coefficient utilization. The coefficient utilization was closely related to both crooded degree and thickness of bark genetically, the lower both crooked degree and thickness of bark value were, the higher the coefficient utilization value was, but hardly to the number of tree knot. Moreover, it was carried out that tree stem forms were valued by index method analysis for each new poplar clones.
