Abstract

The wood physical properties of Bambusa wenchouensis were studied and compared with those o{ other bamboos including PhyIlostachys edulis. The result showed that the basic density of B. zvenchouensis was 0.618g/cm3, lower than that of P. edulis (0.765g/cm3) and equal to or higher than that of other sympodial bamboo species. The air dry volume shrinkage ratio was 7.7%, the maximal swelling ratio was 18.686%, and the maximal water absorption ratio was 77.8%, which were all higher than those of P. edulis.
