Abstract: In order to reveal the precipitation partitioning of forest and the function of soil and water conservation, the ecohydrological characteristics of the natural secondary evergreen broadleave forest in Miaoshanwu Nature Reserve were observed and studied for a short period time of from March to October, 2009 at level of individual stand and runoff plot. The results showed that during the observation period, the total precipitation was 1 220.8 mm. Throughfall under tree layer and stemflow contributed to 60.2 % and 6.0 %, and throughfall under shrub layer contributed to 53.2 % of the total precipitation. Interception loss occupied 40.8 %, including 33.8 % for tree layer and 7.0 % for shrub layer. The litter on forest floor was 5.31 t/hm2, and maximum water retention rate and waterholding capacity of litter were 298 % and 158 mm. The surface runoff from plot was low at only 1.25 mm, which accounted for 0.1 % of the total precipitation; the total sediment was 31.99 kg/hm2, or a soil erosion of 0.262 kg/(hm2·mm); In all, the function of soil and water conservation of natural secondary evergreen broadleave forest was quite good.
