Abstract: The composite emulsion of waterborne polyurethane(WPU)modified by isobornyl methacrylate(IBOMA)was prepared by emulsion polymerization method. The effects of types and dosage of initiator, mass ratio of IBOMA and WPU(solid component), reaction temperature and holding time on properties of the composite emulsion were investigated. The optimum conditions were obtained by orthogonal test. Eventually, it was determined that the best conditions of WPU modified by IBOMA were m(IBOMA):m(WPU)=1:3, 0.4% APS as the initiator(based on the mass of monomer), reaction temperature 80 ℃ and holding time 2 h. Under the above conditions, the average monomer conversion of IBOMA was 95.80%, average water absorption was 5.73%, and average tensile strength was 27.80 MPa. The properties of the composite were characterized by FT-IR, TEM and TG. The results showed that the emulsion with core-shell structure was abtained, and its stability was good as well.
