A study on selection standard for superior tree of Acrocarpus fraxinifolius

Abstract

Base on the investigation genetic resources of Acrocarpus fraxinifolius in Guangxi Autonomous Region, the quantitative properties, qualitative properties and environmental factors of 89 A. fraxinifolius in 3 counties were measured and 20 candidate superior trees have been selected. The principal component analysis about 6 properties of these candidate trees showed that stem form, branch numbers and ratio of crown to diameter could be used as the main indices for selection superior trees of A. fraxinifolius. We have selected 15 preliminary superior trees by baseline method and then selected 9 elite superior trees for the recent clonal propagation by form quality index evaluation method, the selection rate was 45%.This paper have proposed standards and methods for superior tree selection of A. fraxinifolius natural forest in Guangxi Autonomous Region, the purpose of this artice was to establish the science foundation of genetic improvement and innovation utilization.
