Abstract: In this paper, terrestrial laser scanning with digital processing technology of point cloud was used to establish the relationship between taper equation and point cloud data. Meanwhile, taper equation was also fitted. The study obtained the point cloud data of southern poplar forest in Jiangsu province by three-dimensional measurement and extracted the most suitable taper equation by stem curve inversion. Additionally, stem analysis was used to inspect and analyze fitted equation. The study showed that using TLS data could greatly improve the efficiency of the log scaling, achieve high estimation precision and better fitting characteristics. The study not only provided efficient methods and ways for the investigation to estimate the forest harvest, but also had great significance of exploring new remote sensing data sources to the investigation and evaluation of forest resources.
