Abstract:

【Objective】Quercus species are important forest trees and the selection of elite new cultivars for ornamental application is of great significance for the popularization of oak afforestation. 【Method】Superior individuals were selected from seedlings and subsequently propagated by grafting techniques. Finally, distinctness, uniformity and stability (DUS) test was carried out for the selected individuals. 【Result】Q. rubra ‘Chuanqi’ had good performance with large leaves, graceful tree gesture, and a relatively long period with red leaves in Autumn for approximately 25 days. Q. palustris ‘Hongyundangtou’ possessed a straight trunk, reddish-brown buds, as well as red leaves in autumn. Its leaves completely fell off in mid-December. 【Conclusion】The two cultivars have excellent ornamental properties and they can be planted and applied for landscaping.
