Abstract:

【Objective】Large parks provide suitable natural places for residents to engage in physical activity and social interaction. This helps to promote residents’ health, community integration and contributes to healthy cities. Efficiency, convenience, and zero carbon emissions make cycling an important and promising travel mode between residential areas and large parks. Exploring the cycling catchments of large parks provides a reference for planning and developing urban green spaces. 【Method】This study identified the cycling paths between the large parks and surrounding residences in Nanjing City in the Baidu Map with self-written codes, and analyzed the cycling catchment of the large parks and the relevant benefits for the surrounding residential areas at different cycling times. 【Result】The cycling catchment of large parks within 15 minutes covered most of the residential buildings and neighborhoods in main urban areas, though existing some areas lacking of large parks. The service efficiency of different parks varied and the benefits to residents in different neighborhoods and districts. 【Conclusion】In general, the improvements are expected to increase the cycling accessibility of some large parks in Nanjing City. The construction of large parks should be combined with urban cycling traffic optimization to further improve park service efficiency and residents’ travel experiences.
