Abstract

【Objective】 Invasive alien species pose a significant threat to biodiversity and ecological security in invaded regions. Against the backdrop of global climate change, the risk of invasion by non-native species is further exacerbated, necessitating a more thorough assessment of their impacts on native biodiversity. This study focuses on the invasive plant Phytolacca americana, aiming to reveal its expansion trends in China and the potential threats it poses to native congeners through suitable habitat analysis and niche modeling under climate change scenarios. The findings will provide a theoretical basis for the integrated management of P. americana in the context of climate change. 【Method】Utilizing the MaxEnt model and the ecospat package, we analyzed the potential suitable areas and niche overlaps for five Phytolacca species. 【Results】(1)Phytolacca species in China exhibit clear distributional replacement characteristics, with significant adaptive differentiation among species; (2)Key climatic factors such as the minimum temperature of the coldest month, annual precipitation, precipitation seasonality, and precipitation of the coldest quarter exerted decisive influences on the distribution patterns of Phytolacca species; (3)In the context of climate change, the suitable habitats for Phytolacca americana and P. acinosa are expanding, while the suitable habitats for the other three Phytolacca species are diminishing; (4) As an invasive alien species, P. americana exhibits a high niche overlap with the native P. acinosa (D=0.50), whereas the niche overlap with the other three Phytolacca species is relatively low (D<0.50). 【Conclusion】Climate change significantly affects the distribution of Phytolacca species in China, with the strong competitiveness of P. americana posing a threat to native P. acinosa. Therefore, it is crucial to develop conservation strategies specific to each species and region and to strengthen the control of invasive species.
