Abstract: To evaluate and utilize superior Chinese fir germplasm, growth traits(tree height, DBH and stem volume)at age 8 from open pollinated progeny test of the 3rd germplasm of Chinese fir were investigated and analyzed, and superior germplasm of Chinese fir was selected. The overall mean of tree height, DBH and stem volume was 9.31 m,11.88 cm and 0.062 91 m3, with annual 1.16 m,1.49 cm,and 0.007 86 m3 growth, respectively. The genetic variation coefficient of tree height, DBH and stem volume was 2.157%-6.061%, 1.826%-2.769% and 4.895%-6.907%, respectively. Family heritabilities of these traits were 0.348-0.690, 0.167-0.328 and 0.217-0.367 separately. 25 families from the total 97 families were selected, with mean value of tree height, DBH and stem volume was 9.70 m, 12.60 cm, 0.072 21 m3, and more 4.19%, 6.06% and 14.78% than sampled population, respectively. The genetic gain of these traits was 1.88%,1.98% and 5.42%, separately. The results provide evidences of selecting materials for the 3rd generation of Chinese fir seed orchard.
