Abstract: 【Objective】 To determine genetic variation and selection evaluation of the entire alternation cutting period of masson pine(Pinus massoniana Lamb.)half sibling families could provide a reliable basis for high generation genetic improvement for masson pine. 【Methods】 Long-term tree height, DBH and wood volume were analyzed based on the 169 half compatriot progeny test forest of 26-year-old masson pine seed orchard in the Nanning Forestry Division. 【Results】 Tree height, DBH and wood volume were significantly different among families, which indicated the primary clonal seed orchard of masson pine had rich variation among the half compatriot and great improvement potential. Family wood volume growth was lower than that of the Gupeng provenance by 2.96% and lower than that of the Wuming provenance by 5.33%. This indicated that some trees had better genotypes. The family heritability of tree height, DBH and volume were 0.555, 0.466 and 0.423, respectively, in medium-high heritability. The individual heritability of those three was 0.219, 0.128 and 0.111, in low heritability. Both the family and individual heritabilities represented as tree height > DBH > wood volume and tree height had strong heritability. 【Conclusion】 Based on the selection index of the family mean wood volume and volume variation coefficient, 37, 98, 107, 113 and 137 were selected as superior families; these could be used for the high generation genetic improvement of masson pines.
