Abstract: Abstract: This paper was focused on forest health assessment methods. First, the concept of forest health and forest health evaluation were introduced. Then, the concepts, research statuses, and advantages as well as disadvantages of 11 common forest health assessment methods were analyzed and evaluated. It was found that the principal component analysis, the analytic hierarchy process, and the comprehensive index evaluation method were used more frequently; with different evaluation methods, the evaluation results were significantly different; the current review is focused on the evaluation of the status. In a forest health assessment, it is suggested that the specific problems should be analyzed, and from these, the appropriate method for the forest health assessment should be selected. Evaluation methods should not only focus on the status, but also should be able to predict the future trends of forest health.
