Abstract: 【Objective】 This study was performed to reveal the anti-inflammatory activity and mechanism of polyphenol extracts from blueberry fruit. 【Method】 The macrophage model was used to investigate the effects of polyphenols extracted from blueberry fruit on the inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)gene and the cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)gene expression and the NO secretion. 【Result】Blueberry polyphenol extracts significantly decreased NO secretion of lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced RAW264.7 macrophages, and higher concentrations of the polyphenol extract resulted in lower NO secretion. Blueberry polyphenol extracts lowered the expression of iNOS and COX-2 genes. The anti-inflammatory activity of polyphenol extracts from five blueberry cultivars was different in this test.【Conclusion】Blueberry polyphenol extract has anti-inflammatory activity by reducing NO secretion and inhibiting the expression of iNOS and COX-2 genes, thus alleviating the occurrence and development of the inflammation of LPS-induced RAW264.7 macrophages.
