Abstract

Branches of Broussonetia papyrifera L.were treated with Melia azedarach Linn.fluextracts as the food of the beetle( Apriona germari Hope),the effects of the extracts on their oviposition and egg hatch were studied.During 15 days’ testing period the average egg number laid per day of seven pair of the beetles in treated group, which were fed on branches treated by 500 mg/kg of the extracts was 8.53±2.35 and that in the control group(7 pairs)was 15.80±0.98.T test shown significant different between the values of treated and control groups. In the test with 250?1 000? 2 000 mg/kg of the extracts, their average egg number laid per day of the seven pairs of the beetles was 8.06±2.90?6.73±3.82?5.20±1.74 and that for the control group was 13.73±2.90.T test shown the difference between the two values were significant. The hatching rate of the eggs laid by the beetles, which had fed on the branches treated with 250?1 000?2 000 mg/kg of the extracts, reached their final hatching rates, 94.21% ?87.12%?43.58% at 12 th ?15 th ?19 th day. However, that of eggs laid by control beetles was 99.50% at 11 th day.Based on the above results, perspective of utilization of Melia azedarach extracts to control the beetle was discussed.
