Abstract

An incisor bar and control system were installed on a minilathe to investigate the effects of incising veneer on veneer quality.Three controllable variables,i.e.knife pitch angle(PA),vertical gap(VG) and horizontal gap(HG) with three level configurations were examined and compared. Each peeling setting of combination of three variables was repeated twice.Green and dry veneer thickness variation, green veneer curlup,and dried veneer roughness were the veneer quality indicators estimating whether a peeling setting was superior to another. The result showed that the best pitch angle should be 90.5°,suitable vertical gap was 9.84 mm,and the best horizontal gap was 2.79 mm for the rotary peeling with an incisor bar used in this experiment.
