Abstract: Hydrological processes of natural secondary forest ecosystem in Qianjiangyuan ecology station were studied in this paper.By observation,we got the following results:(1)The effect of early soil moisture condition on runoff was significant. The maximum runoff of natural secondary forest watershed lagged about 5—7 hours behind maximum precipitation intensity in early dry to medium moist conditions, whereas the lag time was reduced to one hour in moist condition. (2)Soil moisture differed significantly with different depth. Soil moisture in 5 cm soil layer was minimum, followed by that in 20 cm and 50 cm soil layers, and maximum in 10 cm soil layer. (3)The maximum soil moisture in different soil layers lagged different time with the appearance of maximum precipitation intensity in different rainfall intensities. The maximum soil moisture lagged about 2—6 hours behind maximum precipitation intensity in early dry to medium moist conditions, whereas the two side appeared at the same time in early moist conditions.
