Abstract: Influence of three kinds of carrier polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyethylene glycol (PEG) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) on the CIE brightness and hue of coated paper were examined, and the influence of PVA on the brightening effect of the four sulfonic acidtype and six sulfonic acidtype fluorescence brightening agents was compared. Forthermore, the brightness stability of the coated paper under ultraviolet irradiation was also investigated. The results showed that all these three kinds of carrier all could increase the CIE brightness and the brightness L*value, reduce b*value, to improve the hue of coated paper. But with the increase of a*value, the color of paper would tend to red. The higher the sulfonic acid group in the optical brightening agent, the better the brightening effect of carrier. PVA had a better brightening effect on fluorescent brightening agent of six sulfonic acid than that of four sulfonic acid. All these three kinds of carriers could improve the brightness stability of the coated paper under ultraviolet irradiation, strengthen the paper’s resistance to element.
