Abstract: Tests were carried out both on turpentined and unturpentined trees according to 玊he Methods of Test for the Determination of the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Wood?set forth by the Ministry of Forestry. Results demonstrate that (1) the properties of wood are not to be affected by turpentining, (2) on the contrary, the main properties, such as weight grams per cubic centimetre based on weight and vo-lume at a moisture content of 15 percent, compression parallel to grain, static bending, shear parallel to grain, hardness, etc., increase within the range of 11-17%, only impact bending decreases around 20%, and (3) natural durability of wood isstreng-thened after turpentining.
