Abstract: The open-pollinated seeds were collected from 14 mature natural stands of Cryp-tomeria fortunei in Fujian Province. The seed quality and seedling growth have been studied in laboratories and nurseries in three forest farms. It has been found that among different stands or different individual trees in the same stand there are significant differences in most of the characters studied. The height growth of the seedlings showed high inheritance stability; the variance component of the family x site interaction was very small and insignificant(0.38%)- The estimated family broad sense ; heritability in the height growth was 0.905.-83-
