INFLUENCE OF CLIMATE ON DENDROLIMUS PUNCTATUS WALKER IN TEN PROVINCES AND ONE AUTONOMOUS REGION

Abstract: All the researchers in different provinces and autonomous regions unanimously reported that climate is one of the major factors which exercise an important influence on Dendrolimus punctatus walker.On the basis of the results of the above-mentioned investigations, the author studied the comprehensive effect of the large area climate on the pest in 10 provinces and one autonomous region.On an electronic computer, by the methods of successive-regression analysis, discriminant analysis and duality regression classification, data gathered in 25 counties, municipalities and forest farms in 10 provinces and one autonomous region have been calculated and the lelations between the occutrence of the pest and the climate conditions determined.It should be noted that the occunences of the pest vary in diffeient climate conditions at various latitudes, espcially conditions of temperature, lainfall and relative humidity. According to the geographical locations, topography, incidence gen etations of the pest, insect fauna and geographical types of host trees, the occurrence of Dendrolimns punctatus walker can be classified into three main types of areas:1 . Areas of Guanxi, Guandong, Fujian hilly coastal land where the climate is hot and dry and where 3-4 generations of the pest generally occur.2 . Areas of Sichuan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Fujian hilly and mountainous land where climate is warm and humid and where 2-3 generations of the pest often occur.3 . Areas of Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang plain and hilly land where the climate is temperate and moderately humid and where the incidence of the pest is two generations or more.This classification can provide a reference to the survey of the forest fauna and the research on the ecology of forest insects.
