Abstract: A provenance trial has been carried out in eleven replications in southeastern China on slash pine of fifteen seed sources from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and South Carolina of the United States of America. Results obtained from ten seedlings from different provenances showed that there were significant differences in germination percentage, height and root-collar diameter. Differences in the traits of the seedlings from different locations were also impressive. Williamsbury, South Carolina, appeared to be the best one among the 15 seed sources tested, but most of them were suprior in many respects to the control seedlings grown from seeds from the Taishan seed orchard in Guangdong Province. Adaptability and stability of the 15 seed sources tested are discussed.
