Abstract: For the control of fungus-growing termites, methods used in the past, were chiefly "destorying the nests" and "poisonous fumigation" which take time and labour, contaminate environment, damage plant root system but can hardly control termites on a large scale. This paper studies the feasibility and reliability of the methods of "poisonous bait trapping" and "poisonous baiting" for the control of fungus-growing termites.Resutls of a large-scale field test show that the method of "poisonous bait trapping" avoids the shortcomings brought about by the above mentioned old methods and can be easily applied because of its easy operation and less technical requirements. "Poisonous baiting" has the advantages of easy operation, safety, wide adaptation, low cost and good effect. So far these are probably the most handy and applicable methods for the control of fungus-growing termites in this country. This paper also tells how the methods of "poisonous bait trapping" and "poison bait" should be carried out. A reliable way for checking the mortality of termites through "poisonous baiting" is to find whether there is the special indicator Xylaria nigripes klotzsch on termite nests on the surface of the ground where the poisonous bait has been placed.
