Abstract: Using the method of taking into account the Importance Value(IV) of each species in its vegetation layer in identifying the dominant species or group species in each vegetation layer, this paper classifies the forest communities in Jiangshi area, Fujian Province into 16 associations, belonging to 10 formations and 4 vegetation types. In these associations, there are not only typical evergreen broad leaf forests, but also Torreya jackii forests, which are first discovered in this area, and hard-leaf oak forests, which are most commonly distributed in high altitude mountainous areas in Southwest China. In this paper detailed descriptions and analyses of the components and the structure of each forest vegetation formation and association are made. The distribution of each type of forest is given and the site potential productivity is also evaluated. Finally, the significance of the forest vegetation in Jiangshi area to academic studies, its environmental effects to local soil and its contribution to the beautiful scenery in the locality are discussed.
