Abstract: The plus tree progenies of masson pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.) from 101 stands of 6 regions in Fujian were grown at six territories in the Province. After seven years from seed, height was measured at each test site, while data of other multitract were additionally measured at the specific test site, within and between stand differentiations tested for each trail by analysis of variance, tree height was analyzed over all plantations. Results from genetic test are as follows.l)There are 293 families graded over CK% for height growth, which account for about 49% of the families in all tests. These promising families can be used in reestablishing seed orchards and for roguing the clonal orchards to provide data.2)These results indicate that significant genetic variation occurs between regions, between stands within regions and within stands for the seventh-year height, while the stand and region genetic variation for height appear to be much greater than variation within stands. A combination between and within stand selection could be imposed in masson pine breeding program.3) Individuals and family heritability of height growth at age 7 were estimated to be 0.24 and 0.33, respectively. The above results show that the possibility of genetic improvement through selection breeding in P. massoniana.
