Abstract: Forces are put on the wood by the knives, the disc, the feeding trough, and the feeding mechanism when a disc chipper works. They can be determined by means of static balance. The forces affect the quality of the chip, cutting energy consumption, and load of the machine. It is important to know the forces when designing a chipper.
