Abstract: Based on our previous determination of the degrees of orientation of cellulose non-crystalline region in normal wood using the polarized fluorescence spectrophotometry, the same measurement has been made systematically in the compression and the opposite woods of masson pine (Pinus massoniana). The results showed that the diversities of orientation of cellulose non-crystalline region a-mong the growth rings and between the compression and opposite woods followed certain regularities, especially the degrees of orientation in compression wood were higher than those in opposite wood in both early and late wood, the reason for this difference has been discussed.
