Abstract: Test location effects and stability in stem volume at 7 test locations were analysed for 23provenances of Masson pine (Pinus messoniana Lamb.) from China.The results show that significantdifferences existed both among test locations and the provenances.According to their stem volumesand genetic stability,the 23 provenances could be divided into 4 types: the type with high and stableproductivity, including 1 provenance(P_6);the type with high and unstable productivity,including 8provenances;the type with low and stable productivity,including 12 provenances; the type with lowand unstable such as P_(22)and P_1 provenances. Because the interaction of provenances x location was significant,same provenances at different test locations showed great difference.The suitable analysiswas made on respective suitable location for 23 provenances.The provenances decision abitity analysisin 7 locations shows that L_5, L_6 possessed a superior genetype ability.
