Abstract: After an extensive survey of the natural Chinese fir mixed forests in the Wuyi mountains, further comparative studies have been made on the litter decomposition of six major Chinese fir associated species. The resultS showed that the dry matter remnant ratio of leaf litter of Castanopsis eyresi, Castanopsis fargesii, phyllostachys pubescens, Castanopsis carlesii, Castanopsis sclerophylla and Schima superba were 28. 4 %, 32. 9%’ 35. 7%, 40. 1 % and 44. 4 % respectively after decompsoed for one year. The concentration and remnant ratio of the nutrient elements in the litter variated significantly in the processes of the decomposition. However, the ratio of carbon and nitrogen reflected the differences of the decomposition rates among those species.
