Abstract: Root formation type, rootforming ability genetic variation, ortets effect and position effect of the hybrid Chinese tulip tree (Liriodendron chinense (Hemsl)Sarg×L tulipifera Linn)clones are studied through the field contrast test The results showed as follows:(1) Cuttings include two types of root formation, ie cortical layer rooting and cellus rooting Most clones assume one of all and a few clones with two types (2) The rootforming ability of different cuttings in adult and young hybrid all has great variation Young hybrids variation range is much larger than adult hybrids (3) The ortets age effect of cutting propagation isnt obvious and the rootforming ability of basal stem sprouts of adult hybrids is greatly powerful (4) Rootforming ability of young hybrids sprouts has a position effect
