Abstract: The allelopathy of Metasequoia glyptostroboides was studied. Bioassay of volatiles of M.glyptostroboides and aqueous extracts of soils under the M.glyptostroboides woods, showed that the allelopathy effects on the germination of seed (Triticum aestivum) and the growths of seedlings (T. aestivum and Brassica chinesis). The germinating energy of wheat was decreased by an extract of the soil. The root stem growths of the seedlings were inhibited significantly in high concentrates by an extract of surface layer soil but not by the aqueous of deep layer soil. An aqueous extract stimutated the growth of root and stem in a low concentration. The volatile of M.glyptostroboides leaves also inhibited growth of the root and stem of the seedlings.
