Abstract: The existing various canna cultivars classification systems varying in criterion, make _many disadvantages in international business. A new classification system was proposed based on the ICNCP. The morphological characteristics of petal, staminodes and folia were considered as the prerequisite criterion in species classification. Using height as the second degree criterion in groups classification. Color of leaf and flower, size and shape of flower were used in cultivars classification. According to this system, 66 individuals were divided into 5 species or hybrids, 6 cultivar-groups, 66 cultivars. The three-degree system is simple and effective, measuring up with international routine. It can not only reflect the morphological characteristics of species and cultivar-groups, the origin of cultivars, but also point out the special purpose of every group in landscape design.
