Abstract: Hydrilla verticillata growing in Xuanwu lake was selected as the research object to investigate its purification ability for three kinds of eutrophic waters with different pollution levels. The results showed that the purification ability of H.verticillata for polluted waters was obviously higher than that of the blank, and the purge rate of CODcr, TN, and TP in waters existed correlation among them. The upward tendency of nitrogen and phosphorus contents in H.verticillata was the same with the removing effect of nitrogen and phosphorus in polluted waters. The content of chlorophyll in H.verticillata appeared downward tendency in the initial period of testing, but it gradually recovered to original level after a period of time along with purification of water.
