Abstract: The surface color, wettability and chemical composition of different age moso bamboo(Phyllostachys pubescens)were investigated, and the results showed that the color was deepened gradually with the increase of bamboo age. The wettability sequence of bamboo samples with different age was as follows: one-year bamboo>two-year one>four-month one>four-year one.The relative content of hemicellulose of bamboo surface increased, the change of relative content of lignin between 4 month and 10 years was small. While bamboo at the age from 4 month to 2 years, relative content of holocellulose decreased and reached to minimum at the age of 2 years, there is a little change of relative content of holocellulose between 2-10 years.
