Abstract: A novel degradable and thermoplastic material was prepared by benzylation of wood powder in the presence of phase transfer catalyst(PTC). Effects of different PTCs on weight gain rate(WGR)and melt index(MI)of thermoplastic wood were discussed. The results showed that tetraethyl ammonium iodide was better catalyst and weight gain rate of basification treated with frost was higher than that without frost due to the interaction of hydrogen band. The effect of thermoplasticity of benzylated wood was not only correlate to WGR on the basis of testing MI, it was also relation to phase transfer catalyst.
