Abstract: The peel strength of plastic edge band on panel furniture was tested using the methods for peeling soft and hard overlaid materials, respectively, and the testable range of plastic edge band, the peeling form and interface destruction for different methods were also examined. The results showed that the soft peeling method was suitable for PVC and PP edge band, and the 2 mm PMMA edge band, but not suitable for ABS or 1 mm PMMA edge band, whereas the hard stripping method is only applicable to the plastic edge band of thickness greater than 0.8 mm. It was also found that the soft peeling method of edge band adversely affects the effectiveness of adhesives. The peeling destruction occurs mainly between the edge band and the hot melt adhesive. On the other hand, the hard peeling method leaves the resulting edge band with adhesive effect, however less observant, and the peeling destruction mainly observed in between the base material and the hot melt adhesive.
