Comprehensive evaluation of landscape resources in hydrographic net region of southern Jiangsu Province based on GIS

Abstract: 【Objective】To protect the vernacular landscape, elevate the sustainable utility value, take comparative advantages of landscape resources, improve the competitiveness of each town, and promote the coordinated development of township landscape under the regional environment. 【Method】 On the basis of RS and GIS techniques, using the method of analytic hierarchy process(AHP)assessment, we structured an index system for the evaluation of township landscape resources in the shed area, surrounding Taihu Lake in Wuzhong District of Suzhou, and made comprehensive evaluation of five towns in the area: Xukou, Guangfu, Dongshan, Jinting and Linhu. Through the summary and comparison of the characteristics and differences of the landscape resources in each town, we provide some suggestions for the protection and use of the landscape resources. 【Result】The results show that: within the scope of the research, Jinting gets the highest scores on comprehensive evaluation of landscape resources, with distinct advantages in ecological landscape resources; Dongshan has obvious advantages in cultural landscape resources; and Xukou has relative advantages in social and economic resources.【Conclusion】 The evaluation of township landscape resources not only can comprehensively identify their characteristics and quality, but also is conducive to promoting the planning and construction of characteristic towns.
