Abstract:

【Objective】 Cerasus serrulata var. lannesiana, with variable flower colors and late flowering time, is one of the most important ornamental plants with a great potential for utilization. The selection and breeding of this excellent variety are of great significance for the development of cherry varieties. 【Method】 The authors used the seedlings from the hybrid between C. campanulata ‘Yokou’ and C. serrulata var. lannesiana ‘Matsumae-benihigoromei’ to observe and study the changes of their floral organs. 【Result】 We found ‘Minggui Hong’ was a new variety. This variety had the characteristics of medium flower diameter, pink flower, fragrant, semi-double petals, etc. After seven years of tests, this variety showed that its flower traits were stable. 【Conclusion】 ‘Minggui Hong’ was one of the outstanding red color and late flowering cherry varieties and has a high ornamental value.
