Abstract: Four species of Italian poplar, i. e., 1-63/51 (Populus deltoides Bartr. cv. "Ha; rvard"), 1-69/55 (P. deltoides Bartr. cv. "Lux"), 1-72/58 (P. euramericana cv. "san Martino)" and 1-214 (P. euramericana cv. 1-214) versus Chinese Populus tomentosa Carr, Alniphyllum fortunei and Tilia amurensis have been adopted in a laboratory and prod uction control experiment. 4724 data have been obtained from a number of samplings. Results show that the properties of the four species of Italian poplar are fine in veneer peeling, drying and bonding, that they have no special requirements for bon; ding agent and processing and that they are good timber supply for plywood manu: facturing. This will give great practical significance to the development of Italian poplar production in our plain areas, to the building of plywood timber bases and to the development of plywood industry in our country.
