Discussion on Effective Principle of Unsaturated Soil Mechanics

Abstract

The difference on effective stress principle between saturated and unsaturated soils is analyzed.A study on the particle model of unsaturated soil is performed.The limitation of Bishop effective stress formula for unsaturated soil in theory and application is summarized.The influence on deformation and strength by force and suction should be considered respectively.Then the generalized effective stress principle for unsaturated soil is deduced.The validating test method is put forward.
